23 March 1970 – Dr Rudolf Hermann, first Director of the Research Institute at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH).

Born in Leipzig in 1904, Dr. Hermann became was an aerodynamics expert. He was appointed Director of the Supersonic Wind Tunnel at Peenemunde in 1937. After the War, under Operation Paperclip, he became a consultant to the United States Army Air Forces at Wright Field, Ohio before moving to Huntsville. He and his wife, Maja, visited Honeysuckle Creek shortly before his retirement from UAH.
